philosophy suffers

It is known to many that Dr. Nizar Ahmed is one of the best philosophers in the world. He has not written much. But his thinking-aloud sessions (2 to 5 days long) are simpler than books. For long he has been sharing his thoughts in this way, though not exhaustively. If he were a careerist, he would now be a great professor elsewhere in abroad. He is not a careerist. We are lucky to have him here.

But certain mentalities make philosophy suffer. Nizar had to face a lot of harazzment while he was in Sree Sankara University of Sanskrit, Kalady since the current VC joined the institution. So Nizar availed leave and joined another institution. However, he thought of coming back to Sree Sankara University of sanskrit, Kaladay. So he cancelled the leave. Any institutions should be proud of having him with them. But here is happening something any student or freind of philsophy would not dream of. Nizar is not allowed to join. He is asked to wait three months before he can join. The reason shown by the University autherity is that someone who went on long leave should submit three months prior notice if she or he wants to cancel the leave and join back. But university authorities could have waived such a rule for the benefit of the students there. Certain ulterior motives are lurking behind the adamant sticking-to-the-rule. Stalling Nizar from joining is nothing but a cheap expression of an undemocratic mind, a misuse of power, whosovever be behind it.

Listen to Semmangudi

This is an appeal to all serious music listeners. Sreekrishna Gana Sabha has brought out a four-cassette album of Semmangudi R Srinivasa Iyer, which is a digitally processed product of a live concert held at the same sabha during 1960.

The concert is very grand. I am very impressed by these cassettes. I hope you would also feel the same. This album tells us that we really missed a lot for not having been born earlier. By the impact of listening to his 60s music, I feel I have changed a lot as a listener as well as singer, and my settled concepts of tonal images of musical beauty seem start unsettling.

Here I am

Profile

I am a Carnatic Vocalist.
I am both a student of music and a performer. I look for more and more opportunities to render exhaustive concerts in company with a highly sensible but prejudiceless audience. I am learning and like to learn more too.

I am a student of philosophy too.

The current theme I am immersed in studying is how relativist positions are situated in philosophy.
